ABOUT THIS LITTLE ADVENTURE
In this adventure, you’ll learn to illustrate a graceful, strong-willed heroine inspired by Delftware and willow-pattern porcelain — all in shades of thoughtful blue. You’ll move from gentle pencil lines to crisp penwork and finish with a limited watercolor palette that feels timeless and intentional.
Every adventure follows four simple steps — study, prepare, practice, and imagine — that make creating feel doable and fun.
You’ll study your inspiration, prepare your supplies, practice with project breakdowns, and then imagine your start-to-finish illustration into something beautifully your own. It’s how I work in my own studio — one clear, careful step at a time.
Imagine your heroine and build a frame of beauty to keep her safe — a world of blue-tinted patterns and painted love, one layer at a time.
No overthinking. No pressure. Just curiosity, color, and a smidge of watercolor magic.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Throughout our creative time together, you’ll learn how to paint a Delft-inspired story scene — blue-washed florals, patterned borders, soft silhouettes, and the tiny details that gather around a porcelain plate. We’ll explore how color, repetition, and a bit of imagination can turn simple shapes into a bright little illustration that feels welcoming and full of story.
Each Little Adventure includes step-by-step videos, a coordinating PDF packet, and clear guidance designed to keep learning light, colorful, and doable. In WillaBlue, you’ll practice building delicate line-work, layering watercolor in a thoughtful mix of blues, and adding tiny flourishes that bring each character and pattern to life.
Once you’ve practiced the smaller pieces, you’ll use everything you’ve learned to follow along with the full start-to-finish illustration — playful, lovely to work on, and filled with details galore.
Please note that the photos shown on this page were created in anticipation of the course and serve as examples of the project you’ll be guided to make. The level of detail, composition size, and subjects will match those featured in the video lessons.

WHO IT'S FOR
This Little Adventure is for any creative who wants to build watercolor skills with clear guidance, steady structure, and room to make the work their own.
It’s especially for:
Beginners who want straightforward instruction and a project that breaks things down in a way that finally feels doable.
In-between artists who like practicing details, trying new ideas, and seeing real improvement from lesson to lesson.
Confident painters who are curious about expanding their personal style — borrowing ideas, mixing approaches, and developing new creative habits.
Each course is built to meet you in the middle: new painters can spend extra time in the practice lessons, and more experienced artists can explore creative possibilities in the final illustration. All levels will find something to enjoy — a project that teaches, encourages, and helps you grow in a clear, tangible way.
A PEEK INSIDE + SUPPLIES
Below you’ll find a sampling of the lessons and a short supply list for this Little Adventure.
Most of what I use is artist-grade, chosen for quality and longevity — but please don’t feel pressured to buy everything right away. Use what you already have, take a few notes as you watch the videos, and only invest in the paints and tools that truly add joy (and better color!) to your own work.
You’ll also find a downloadable 2026 Color Palette PDF, which includes the full list of colors I’ll be referencing during the course. It’s free for everyone and includes helpful tips for reviewing what you already own, understanding paint labels, and swapping in your favorites.
This adventure is about curiosity, not perfection — so gather your brushes, paper, and paints, and let’s see where the stones lead.
ARTIST-GRADE ESSENTIALS
Every watercolor project begins with a short list of must-have artist-grade essentials—the dependable tools that make painting easier and help you build consistent results from the very start. They’re the same studio staples I keep on hand for every project I paint.
The essentials don’t change from one project to the next. Your workbook simply gives you the exact brands and sizes I’ll be using for this adventure.
- Watercolors (pans or tubes)
- Watercolor-only brushes
- Artist-grade cold press watercolor paper (140 lb.)
- Mechanical pencil with .3 HB lead
- White vinyl eraser
- Artist-grade white colored pencil
- Titanium white gouache
- White mixing palette (ceramic or porcelain—plastic causes paint to bead up)
- Clear water jar (easy to see when it needs changing)
- Paper towels
- Table salt
- Craft dryer (Ranger)
- Clear straight and right-angle acrylic grid rulers
- Artist’s tape in several widths (½–1 inch range)
