IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES
There's something irresistible about a girl who carries her spirit animal everywhere she goes — tucked into her hair, perched on her shoulder, nestled close. Spirit Mama is a course about painting five complete illustrations of women and their beloved creatures: a Trio of Mamas (puppy, kitten, and bunny together), Owl Mama, Mouse Mama, Squirrel Mama, and Burro Mama. Before the full compositions begin, you'll warm up with animal breakdown studies — learning to draw a puppy, kitten, and bunny using simple structural steps so you understand how each creature is built before you paint it. You'll also explore inspiration blocks for palette building, scale and proportion for tucking animals convincingly into compositions, and the kind of intricate mark-making that makes these illustrations feel alive with texture and story.
UNLOCK A NEW SKILL
With a background in graphic design and fine art, I create illustrations that tell hidden stories. The skill at the heart of Spirit Mama is learning to tell a character's story through what surrounds her — not through her expression or her words, but through her spirit animal, her hair, her colors, and the way everything is composed together. You'll learn to use inspiration blocks to translate a feeling or a creature's personality into a palette, to build big, textured hair that becomes a living space for the animals nestled inside it, and to make intricate mark-making do the narrative work that words usually do. It's the art of layering meaning into an illustration until the whole thing hums with a quiet story only your viewer will discover.
BUILD YOUR CRAFT
Spirit Mama is built around the idea that purposeful practice before a project changes what the project becomes. The animal breakdown studies aren't just warm-ups — they're the reason the final illustrations have the quality they do. Inspiration blocks teach you to pull palette ideas from unexpected sources before you ever touch watercolor. The playtime exercise asks you to loosen up with quick sketches and layered color before committing. Then each of the five projects unfolds across multiple hours of video, with glazed watercolor layers, redrawing, white ink details, and colored pencil accents all playing a specific role in building the finished piece. It's a patient, additive process that rewards the artist who shows up to every layer, creating a depth that shorter classes simply can't match.
