Art Troop No. 5 | Series 1 is a focused watercolor illustration course built around five of the most delightfully unexpected animals you'll ever paint. You'll work through five complete projects — an array of hedgehogs, a crash of rhinos, a tribe of goats, a pod of walruses, and a drift of bees — each one teaching a specific technique while guiding you through a full illustration from start to finish. Along the way you'll learn to draw at a small scale, decode warm and cool color, build luminous glazed layers, use advancing and receding color to create depth, and finally tackle value and saturation with confidence. With a background in graphic design and fine art, I create illustrations that tell hidden stories. What sets this course apart is the way each animal becomes a vehicle for a specific watercolor skill — not just a pretty project to copy. The hedgehog teaches you to embrace unexpected color palettes and lean into texture. The rhino builds your small-scale drawing confidence, where simplicity and clarity matter more than detail. The goat introduces color temperature as a depth tool — warm colors advancing, cool colors receding — so you can create dimension without a single drop of traditional shadow. The walrus is really a glazing lesson in disguise, with layered transparent washes doing all the heavy lifting. And the bee brings it all home by asking you to finally commit to your darkest darks and most saturated color — knowing when to push and when to stop.
